Blueberries might be small, but they punch massively above their weight with the impact they 🫐
They’re rich in anthocyanins, which is the deep blue-purple pigments linked with antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, cardiovascular, and brain-health benefits.
Blueberries are good for you in ways people can almost feel. Research suggests they may help keep your blood vessels healthy, support better circulation, protect your cells from everyday damage, and help calm inflammation in the body.
Whilst “superfood” can sound like marketing hype, blueberries do have real science behind their health benefits.
But there’s a really critical piece here around how you eat them and what you eat with them.
Research has found that when people ate blueberries with a glass of water, their blood antioxidant capacity increased.
But when they ate the same blueberries with dairy (milk, but the same will apply to cream or ice cream), that increase disappeared, with and some antioxidant markers actually dropping.
So pairing blueberries with cream or dairy may blunt the very benefits you are eating them for.
This creates a very simple takeaway: Eat the blueberries and make them a daily habit, but don’t have them with milk or cream!
Small food choices can have big compounding effects.
