3 Things you can do everyday...

šŸŒ… The Morning routine for maximum benefit with minimum time.

Most of us wake up and immediately reach for our phones and start scrolling before our brain is even fully awake. Sounds all too familiar ey?

Here’s what the science says about a better start to the day, and none of it requires an hour-long routine, recognising the need for the daily commute and sorting out the kids!

ā˜€ļø Get light first. Immediately!

Open your curtains the moment you wake up. Morning bright light exposure enhances your cortisol awakening response by almost 40% more, which is your body’s natural alarm system doing exactly what it’s designed to do. Your internal clock (known as your suprachiasmatic nucleus) is very light-sensitive so you want to give it the signal it needs. If you’re waking before sunrise, a gradual light alarm clock is a good idea as it mimics dawn and makes getting out of bed feel less difficult.

šŸ’§ Hydrate before you caffeinate.

You’ve just fasted for 7-8 hours. Your kidneys need water to clear overnight metabolic waste, and your brain is running on reserves. Research shows that morning hydration improves attention, reaction time, and alertness much faster than caffeine, because it addresses an immediate physiological gap rather than masking it with caffeine. Aim for around 500-650ml within the first 30 minutes. Your kidneys and brain will feel the benefit.

🚶 A short brisk walk (10-15 minutes)

You don’t always need a gym session. A short walk outdoors combines three benefits of movement, natural light exposure, and a mental reset at the same time. Physical activity increases brain blood flow, endorphins lift mood, and outdoor light improves the day/night (circadian) signal. Research consistently shows it improves brain function and creativity throughout the day. It’s a real high return for the 15 minute investment, and one that pays off all day.

Time is our most precious resource. The best morning routine isn’t necessarily the longest one but it is the one that gives you the most output for the least input, and that you can consistently achieve.

Light. Water. Movement.

That’s it.Ā

Three things. 10 to 20 minutes. Science-backed, sustainable, and free.

What does your morning routine look like and what works for you?
