Let's Talk About Men's Health....

Men are good at carrying on by pushing through, staying busy or putting things off.

But when it comes to health, that mindset can quickly work against us. In clinic, it’s something we see all the time.

A man comes in for something minor like a cough, a sore knee or a routine query, and it’s often the first time they’ve had their blood pressure checked in years.

Sometimes it’s high. Occasionally, it very high and they had no idea.

That’s the thing about many of lifes health risks, they’re silent, and the only 'symptom' you get is something catastrophic like a heart attack or a stroke.

Men are significantly less likely to attend routine check-ups or seek help early, which means problems can go unnoticed for years.

Conditions like:

 •    High blood pressure

 •    Raised cholesterol

 •    Diabetes

 •    Early-stage cancers (including prostate and testicular)

Preventive health is about catching these early, before they become life-changing.

You can check your blood pressure at most pharmacies, or even at home with a reliable monitor.

It takes minutes, and it could change your future life.

Its Men’s Health Week, so its a great time to do something about your health.

Don’t wait until something feels wrong before you act.

Its the perfect opportunity to look at the bigger picture too, and consider your weight, sleep quality, alcohol intake, and exercise levels as they all play a role in long-term health.

If you've got a 'wearable', have a look at how many steps you've tracked, or what your sleep quality is like. How does your VO2 Max compare to other men of a similar age?

And if you've not been especially active, just walk 1000 more steps a day.

That single action will have a huge positive impact on your life.

Looking after your health isn’t about reacting late. It’s about acting early!

Preventing as much disease as we can, and then early treatment of the things we can't avoid
